Seperti yang kita ketahui sebelumnya, BMW menghadirkan mobil sedan dengan seri angka ganjil, seperti seri 3, 5 dan 7. Untuk memperketat lini produk, BMW juga menghadirkan seri angka genap untuk mobil dengan model coupe. Untuk seri 3 ada seri 4, seri 5 ada seri 6 dan yang terakhir dengan kabar terkini, BMW melakukan tes uji coba pada seri 8 Gran Coupe, sebuah coupe kelas tertinggi dari BMW.

Seri yang digunakan pada BMW Gran Coupe ini adalah M850i. Mesin yang digunakan pada prototipe mobil ini adalah mesin 4.4L konfigurasi V8 dengan twin turbo yang sanggup menghasilkan 523 HP dan 750 Nm. Tentunya dengan mesin seperti ini, BMW sanggup berhadapan dengan pesaing-pesaingnya, seperti Porsche Panamera, Audi A7 Sportback dan Mercedes AMG GT 4-Door.
