What is Vehicle Stability Control (VSC)

AutoCatch | Automotive Reviews - The safety factor in driving is not only determined by the alertness of the driver's attitude in responding to road conditions. Because there are actually many accidents that occur due to driver negligence or because they lack readiness for the danger conditions faced. For that we need security features that are embedded in the vehicle to help reduce the occurrence of fatal risks due to accidents.

One of the most important security features of the vehicle is VSC (Vehicle Stability Control). As the name implies, the main function of this feature is to control the stability of the vehicle when in a condition that has the potential to cause the vehicle to lose stability. For example, when a vehicle accelerates at a sharp bend, or when the driver slides hard so the vehicle is prone to tumbling.

Application of Vehicle Stability Control (VSC)
This feature has proven to be very effective in reducing fatal risks due to accidents, both single accidents or crashes. According to research conducted by Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), this system can reduce the fatal risk of a single accident by up to 56%. So that many countries in the world have implemented regulations that require VSC features to be embedded in every vehicle.

But many do not know about VSC yet, and how it works. VSC is one of the important security features that can detect a car when it is in a condition that has the potential to roll over, which is a condition where the car is prone to spinning or rolling.

When the car accelerates fast on slippery roads, the wheels can slip because they don't have enough friction to drive the car. Likewise, when the car drives at high speed on the bend, it causes the car to become unsteady because the grip of each wheel becomes unbalance so that the car can lose stability.

To overcome this vehicle instability problem, VSC features are created. This feature is able to prevent overspin wheels due to slip symptoms. The way it works is by utilizing the brake function and regulating gas openings automatically according to the needs of the vehicle. So that when the wheel has an indication of slippage, the sensor will detect the rotation speed of each wheel. Then the sensor instructs the engine to automatically distribute the right torque, adjust the gas openings and activate the brakes according to the needs so that the wheels do not slip. This is very effective to overcome the problem of stability in the vehicle due to overspin and unbalanced wheel traction.
